In 2015 Mandy Jayakody co-founded Aquila Projects (Pty) Ltd, a professional project management consultancy, offering turnkey solutions in construction and infrastructure development projects. As project managers the organization has carved a niche space in working in highly controlled and live environments. In 2017, 2018 and 2019 Aquila Projects won multiple winning regional and national awards at Black Umbrellas for ‘Best Performing Company’and “Brand Ambassador”. In 2018 Mandy was awarded the Women in Construction – Young Entreprenuer Rising Star Award at the African Construction Awards and was selected as a finalist in the National Business Awards Entrepreneur of the year.
Mandy has through her 15 plus year career has had the opportunity to work on various projects in South Africa, Rwanda, Mozambique, Swaziland, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia and the UK. She graduated with an BSc Honours in Natural Sciences but later completed a Masters in Civil Engineering at the University of the Witwaterstrand. She is currently a Doctoral candidate in Business Transformation through Business School Lausanne in Switzerland.
She currently sits on the board of Neoteric Kapital, Uptown Student Hub and serves as non-executive board member of Elysian Fields Organic Farms.
Mandy is an accredited Green Buildings Professional and has also served as a member of the Technical Working Group for the development of the Green Buildings Council of South Africa Public Buildings Tool. Over a four-year period as part of the Business of Consulting Engineering Programme offered by Consulting Engineers South Africa’s (CESA), Mandy developed and presented a module “Principles of Sustainability” for engineers as part of this CPD programme. Mandy also participated in the Technical Working Groups: Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting and Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability, for the development of King IV Report of Corporate Governance.
Her current areas of interest as related to infrastructure are impact investment, sustainable design and efficiency and project management
 Aquila is a member of Black Umbrellas business incubation hub, a non-profit enterprise development organization which focuses on promoting entrepreneurship as a desirable economic path. Black Umbrellas nurtures 100% black-owned companies which show determination and promise in increasing economic growth in the country.
